The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled right-hander Cristian Mena to make his main league debut on the highway towards the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
In a corresponding transfer, the Diamondbacks optioned right-hander Gavin Hollowell to Triple-A Reno.
Mena, 21, is 3-2 with a 4.90 ERA over 16 begins at Reno this season. Acquired from the Chicago White Sox in February for outfielder Dominic Fletcher, Mena has made 79 begins over 4 minor league seasons, with 20 of these on the Triple-A degree.
He’s filling the spot within the rotation vacated when left-hander Jordan Montgomery went on the injured record this week with proper knee irritation.
Hollowell, 26, was added to the roster Tuesday however he didn’t pitch towards the Dodgers. He had 32 reduction appearances with the Colorado Rockies over the earlier two seasons and posted a 6.20 ERA.
