City planner Jeff Speck is bringing a walkable way of life to cities throughout the U.S. About Jeff Speck Jeff Speck is a metropolis planner and architectural designer who advocates internationally for extra walkable cities. Speck is the principal on the city design and consultancy agency, Speck Dempsey. As Director of Design on the Nationwide Endowment for the Arts from 2003 via 2007, he oversaw the Mayors’ Institute on Metropolis Design and created the Governors’ Institute on Neighborhood Design, a federal program that helps state governors battle suburban sprawl. Speck’s books embody Walkable Metropolis: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time, and Walkable Metropolis Guidelines.
