The No. 10/10 Marquette College males’s basketball staff (24-8, 15-6 BIG EAST) opened BIG EAST Event play with a 71-65 win over Villanova (18-15, 10-11 BIG EAST) on Thursday evening in Madison Sq. Backyard.
Guard Stevie Mitchell completed with 15 factors and 6 rebounds and guard Kam Jones added 18 factors.
The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 10-2 run and led by as many as 9 factors within the opening minutes of the stanza, however noticed the Wildcats claw again and ultimately take the lead, 51-50, with 7:07 on the clock.
Marquette trailed 29-28 on the intermission, regardless of capturing simply 34.5 p.c from the ground total and 5-of-16 from behind the 3-point line. MU’s protection held the Wildcats to only 40.0 p.c and compelled six turnovers.
With slightly below two minutes left in additional time sophomore Chase Ross hit a high of the important thing three to present the Golden Eagles a 66-63 lead.
Oso Ighodaro sealed the victory for Marquette with a bounce hook leaving 18 seconds on the clock.
