TORONTO — Canadian Olympic basketball workforce normal supervisor Rowan Barrett mentioned Friday that Golden State is obstructing Andrew Wiggins from competing in Paris, whereas the Warriors countered it was a mutual resolution between the workforce and Wiggins.
Wiggins was among the many 20 gamers who obtained invites to camp to find out the Olympic workforce.
“For us, Andrew was tremendous,” Barrett mentioned. “We had been speaking to him constantly, he is been coaching for weeks and weeks preparing for this. After which I acquired a name from Golden State a day or two earlier than camp saying that they are holding him out.
“So, from what I see, this isn’t an Andrew resolution, that is from the workforce. And so, he will not be with us.”
The Warriors advised The Related Press on Friday evening that it was a mutual resolution between the workforce and Wiggins.
The ten-year NBA veteran final performed for Canada in an Olympic qualifying event in 2021.
“I am dissatisfied for him,” Barrett mentioned. “He is gone via quite a bit the final couple of years after which, clearly, his mom was an Olympian and that is one thing he is wanting ahead to and dealing towards and actually on the uphill climb it appeared like in all the things.”
